What do I Wear???

If you are anything like me you are busy.  busy with work, busy with kids, busy managing the house, busy, busy, busy...And if you are anything like me you don't have time to shop.  So what do you wear if you are invited out somewhere?  that can be really tough.  Although so simple for many, busy moms don't have time to shop and stay on trend.  Speaking from experience, my wardrobe really consists of jeans (too many, sweats, t-shirts and anything totally washable).

But I'm an adult and on occasion I do get invited out to something other than a playdate.  So here are the best basics every mom should have in her closet

1.  A dress or skirt with a knee length hem.  It can go just about anywhere with the right accessories.  Choose a dark classic tone like black, charcoal or even chocolate brown.  Paired with the right jewellery, shoes and make up and you are ready to go anywhere.

2.  Dark straight leg jeans.  A little less dressy than the skirt/dress option but a great staple that can really go almost anywhere.  Works well for a date night, PTA meeting, weekend errands, girls' night out...Again just pair it with great shoes, makeup and accessories and you are set!

3. The V-neckline.   Flattering, so flattering.  V-neck sweaters, t-shirts, dresses and more are an easy go-to option.  Can easily be dressed up or down, hair can be up or down, make up can be simple or glam, it just depends on where you are going and what the occasion calls for.

4. Nude heels.  Especially if you have a thicker leg line or if you are petite but these work on everyone and with almost anything.  they really elongate the legs (who doesn't want longer legs) and they take away and questions you might have about matching because they go with everything.

5.  A classic white dress shirt.  With the pencil skirt, the jeans, dress pants it's up to you.  Great for work but sexy on a date too.  You can belt it, wear it under a blazer or cardigan.  Add jewellery to dazzle or just keep it simple with pearls.  Endless possibilities.

Some tips to also remember...

1.  Don't show too much skin.  If it's a special night out you want to be sexy so if you have great legs and you want to show them off DO but DON'T show off the cleavage, too

2.  Fit is important not size.  Who cares if the tag says 12.  Does it look good? Yes, well that's what matters and no one knows what size you are.

3.  A tailor can make everything better.  don't be afraid to have pant hemmed or even jacket sleeves.  If you bought something and aren't sure if it can be tailored, purchase it (knowing their return policy)and find out and if it can't just return it.  Knitwear cannot be tailored.

4.  The right bra and other under garments can change the way your clothes fit so look into a  professional bra fitting if it has been over 1 year or if your body has gone through some big changes.
