1 - Research shows that peppermint tea extract can destroy bacteria that cause infections like sinusitis and bronchitis. To brew it up, place a handful of mint leaves in a tea pot and gently muddle using the back of a spoon. Fill the pot with hot water, let steep for 5 minutes and add honey to taste.
2 - Grilling is one of the healthiest and most delicious ways to cook meat but the high heat can cause compounds called heterocyclic amines (HCAs). Mint sauce to the rescue. Scientists found that marinating steak in mint and other herbs for one hour before grilling can slash HCAs by up to 88%. Try this delicious version - chop 12 fresh mint leaves combine with 1/2 tsp each of dried rosemary, thyme and cinnamon; 1/4 tsp each of sea salt and dried oregano; 1 Tbsp of honey; 1/4 cup lime juice and 2 Tbsp of olive oil. Yum!!
3 - Finish a meal with mint to ease your tummy plus it can help to regulate gut bacteria. It's a great antidote to belly bloat.
4 - Change up your pesto! Add a pureed handful of mint leaves and another of fresh cilantro with 2 Tbsp of lime juice, 2 cloves of garlic, 1/3 cup olive oil and a dash of sea salt. Serve with pasta or a crostini, or even in a sandwich.
5 - Twist it up! On a Caprese salad swap your basil for mint and tomatoes for sweet seasonal peaches and layer with fresh mozzarella, beautiful and delicious!
