Is your make up aging you???

I love make up tricks from experts!  I hope none of you are doing these 5 make up don'ts because they totally age you...

1.  Over plucked eyebrows.  Big and full looks younger and fresher.  Over plucked or sparse?  fill in with a taupe pencil or shadow - tip should not be sharp.  Sharp and too shaped brows look unnatural and make you look older.

See a professional to have your brows shaped and if you are over plucked, put the tweezers down, step away for about 6-8 weeks and let them grow in and see a professional for some guidance.

2.  Matte Lipstick.  This is a pretty dated look so opt for a stain, balm or gloss.  even in a bolder shade like fuchsia (which is hot on most skin tones) add a dab of gloss to help reflect the light.

Gloss can be used day or night but stains and balms are best for day. these lighter options are fresher and more youthful.

3.  Lip liner.  OK, this was a popular look in the 90's.  The neutral liner that lined your lips but the problem was most of us didn't do it right and we ended up looking like we needed someone to colour inside the line like a colouring book.  The look for lips now is more carefree and simple.  If you must use your liner, find one that is actually the same as you skin tone, that way it won't look 'costumey'.

such a beautiful woman shouldn't look like this.  the two toned 90's lip is distracting and not flattering or showing off your true beauty.

the lip liner here is adding some colour but it is inside the lip and the make up artist will then fill in the rest of the lip with a lipstick/balm or gloss in the same shade.  The job of the lip liner is to keep the colour from bleeding.

4.  Make up colours.  Eye shadow can really highlight your eye shape and colour but are you using the right colours?  For an understated look try sticking with neutrals like browns, taupes, even gold tones but stay away from the bold and glittery blues, greens and purples.  If you want to add some colour to your eye lids for an evening out - try getting some advice with application from a professional.  A smokey eye with eggplant purple is beautiful but you need to know what you are doing.

the smokey eye look here is too intense - the application is heavy and the colours are too dark.  The smokey eye effect has more to do with application (so the blending of the colours and where the colours are placed on the lid and less to do with the actual colours themselves).  also, when liner is applied to the lower lash line it can make you look older as it starts to drag you downward.  So if you like liner on the lower line, keep it light in amount and in colour or try using shadow with an angle brush.

I love Kim Kardashian's eye make up, always.  She is a master!  Gorgeous long lashes and they are always black.  Some beautiful blending of neutral tones, soft liner and of course, perfect eye brows.  Stunning!  But you don't need a lot of make up and certainly crazy colours to get this gorgeous look, you just need the right tools and instructions.

You also need to watch your lip and blush colours.  Going too candy coloured can have a reverse effect on you looking fresh and youthful.  Frosted lipsticks are very 1980's, so stay away from those, too

5.  Blending.  You do not want to look painted on like an arts and crafts project.  You can still wear colour on your eyes, lips and cheeks but blend, blend and blend some more.  Also I personally prefer the look of highlighting one feature on your face.  so if you want a bold fuchsia lip the eye should play a supporting role.

If you want a sexy, sultry smokey eye keep the lips and cheeks neutral but of course, complimentary.

I'm a big fan of Jennifer Lopez's smokey eye - it's super sexy and all the other supporting 'roles' on her face support the look and don't over power.

Also, it is important to look through your make up bag and make sure all of the items are still 'fresh'.  Old make up can cause break outs and can spread bacterias - yuck!  check out newer products (it's OK to have favourites but a lot of the news products are lighter (BB cream is awesome!) and the colour pigmentation is so vibrant too!
