Hairstyles of the busy mommy

So, I really subscribe to the idea that if you look good you feel good and all to often we moms end up last on our list of priorities.  I get it!  I have 3 small children and a busy husband so I know how this goes.  You wake up get everyone clean, dressed, fed and out the door...you then get the house tidy and start preparing for meals and other things that need to get done and at some point in the day you shower and throw something on that is mostly clean (or at least not smelly) and the chaos continues....

I was lucky enough to have a few moments in my busy schedule to take in what's happening on the Spring Runways in terms of hairstyles and guess what, Mommy's?  There are hairstyles that we can don and look like we are participating in what's current!  It feels good and looks good and that's important, don't forget that!

So what is happening in hairstyles on the runway Spring 2013?

1 - the low pony tail - easy.  tied back with a large barrette or elastic, totally up to you.  i personally think this looks bvest with thick hair and straighter hair.

2 - knots aka buns  - perfect to keep the humidity from ruining your look.  don't forget to use some product to keep the fizz away, but such an easy look for day or night just add great jewelry for night time.

3- braids (small, big or multiple)  i love braids on women and girls.  the possibilities are endless...you can braid it all or just the hair near your face.

4 - Slicked back and off the face perfect for the beach or after the beach

5 - Rock 'n' Roll Waves (basically loose and carefree in other words easy and no fuss), again think about what products to use to keep the fizz away but just an easy loose look.

6 - Hair Accessories - headbands, bows, flowers, bright barrettes, scarfs, hats, anything goes....this is great for for Summer too. Keeping the hair off your face or just adding some fun to your look.

7 - Undone up-dos so lose buns and ponies, again so easy and perfect for moms.

Getting organized: my mud room

Calling my side door entry a mud room is a bit generous.  We have an entry point through the garage and we have closet space there and a furniture piece, so it is not a huge space but it's a hot zone in my home and it might be in yours too.  It's a small but widely used area by everyone in my home.  Everything was getting dumped there - dry cleaning, diaper bags, shoes, boots, coats, paperwork and files, etc....it was a total dumping ground. With my eldest son starting school in the fall,  I knew I had to get this area of the house under control and user friendly for all of our needs.

So I was looking for some ideas and came across, "Better Homes and Gardens special Edition of Secrets of Getting Organized" and found some great ideas.

I've just started and I'm not done yet but wow, what a difference already!

I cleared out the closet and did a purge.  I was surprised to see how many coats etc...that did not fit.  So I had a number of items to donate.  I then used the vacuum to give the floor of the closet a good clean.  I purchased and assembles a shoe rack and added that vertical storage in the closet - so now all shoes have a space in the closet and they are not piling up at the door.

I also added 3 colour coded baskets on the top shelf of the closet (1 colour for each of my kids) for mitts, hats etc...It's easy for my husband and I to put their things away.

I also added a basket in the mudroom as a dry cleaning drop off.  If this is where the dry cleaning is being dumped at least now it is contained.

A small set of hooks for keys and a larger set for the kids jackets and back packs installed at their height.

I'm also painting a chalkboard section to jot down reminders for all of us.

House rules.

Other ideas - I'm going to add a file folder on top of the furniture piece for school and work - again colour coded.

I think I'm also going to add a cork board for notices etc...
